Analysis of the difficulties of cutting high-temperature alloys and general steels by fiber laser cutting machine:

1. Poor thermal conductivity of materials

When cutting high-temperature alloys, a large amount of cutting heat generated by fiber laser cutting machines is borne by the oxidized tip taps. The tip of the tool bears a cutting temperature of up to 700-9000. Under the action of high temperature and large cutting force, the cutting edge will produce plastic deformation, adhesion and diffusion wear.

The main components of nickel-based alloys are nickel and chromium, and a small amount of other elements are added: molybdenum, tantalum, niobium, tungsten, etc. It is worth noting that tantalum, niobium, tungsten, etc. are also the main components used to make oxidized tip taps for cemented carbide (or high-speed steel). Using these oxidized tip taps to process high-temperature alloys will produce diffusion wear and abrasive wear.

2. Fiber laser cutting machines have a high tendency to harden

For example, the hardness of the unreinforced matrix of GH4169 is about HRC37. After cutting by a metal laser cutting machine, a hardened layer of about 0.03mm will be produced on the surface, and the hardness will increase to about HRC47, with a hardening degree of up to 27%. The work hardening phenomenon has a great impact on the life of the oxidized tip tap, and usually causes severe edge wear.

3. The fiber laser cutting machine has a large cutting force

The strength of high-temperature alloys is more than 30% higher than that of commonly used alloy steel materials in steam turbines. At cutting temperatures above 600°C, the strength of nickel-based high-temperature alloy materials is still higher than that of ordinary alloy steel materials. The unit cutting force of unstrengthened high-temperature alloys is above 3900N/mm2, while that of ordinary alloy steel is only 2400N/mm2.
